The long-awaited battle of the Thai beers is upon us as Chang-backed Everton host Thaksin's Singha-backed boys at Goodison this coming Saturday. With just 3 points separating Champions League-placed City from their poorer Scouse cousins in the Mickey Mouse places, this match is a real six-pointer.
Everton go into this showdown in fine form, having won four of their last six games. They can also lay claim to the Premier League's 5th best home record, with six wins from ten at Goodison so far this season. City managed to improve their much-maligned away record with a fine victory at St James' Park last time out and have only lost one of their last ten league fixtures. However, they have been drawing far too many games recently (5 out of the last 10) so a victory against the Toffees is needed if City are to convince their doubters that European qualification really is a realistic target for this season.
Last year's corresponding fixture ended 1-1, after Micah Richards cancelled out Andy Johnson's opener with the last kick of the game. City went on to win the return fixture at Eastlands on New Year's Day in a match that was famous for being the last time Stuart Pearce's side scored a goal at home for the whole remainder of the season.
