MCFC Vs West Ham - The Red Lion (SZR) Sunday 24th Aug K.O. 7.00pm

What a difference a year makes. City started last season away at West Ham on a roll that would see us remain firmly entrenched in the top four until late November. We had a new owner, bags of cash, a new manager, eight new players, and a spanking new third kit. Spirits were as high as I ever remember them in all my years as a Blue.

A year later, our owner is on the run, we're skint, we have yet another new manager, only two new players (one of which the manager didn't even ask for), and last week we played in the worst kit I have ever seen. There's never a dull day as a Manchester City supporter!

That day last year marked the first proper get together of MCFC Dubai and we all went home thoroughly satisfied (and extremely drunk, if I remember correctly) after new signings Rolando Bianchi and Geovanni gave us a comfortable 2-0 victory that had the Sunday papers gushing with praise.

In a quirk of fate, City's forgotten man Bianchi returned to training this week and, given our paucity up front, is likely to be handed at least a place on the bench against West Ham, with Jo not due back from Beijing until Monday morning. Poor old Valeri Bojinov is now out for another six months and Benjani and the goal machine Vassell are still three months away from fitness. Richard Dunne will be absent again through suspension, but hopefully Nedum Onouha will be drafted somewhere into the backline following the woeful defending on show at Villa Park.

In a break from tradition, MCFC Dubai will be watching this match at The Red Lion in the Metropolitan Hotel (SZR between Interchange 1 and 2). It will be our first ever "away day", so I hope as many of you as possible will make the effort to get down there and cheer Bluesy's boys on to victory. The match kicks off at 7.00pm (Dubai time) and the more "enthusiastic" members of MCFC Dubai will be there from 6.00pm. See you there.

Dave
